Ohio project will strengthen communities — and the economy

Posted by TransCanada

Ohio project expected to create more than 5,000 jobs

One of the most satisfying aspects of working for a company such as TransCanada, is knowing you’re making a difference to communities around North America. That’s why we were so pleased to receive our final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Not only does this mean that the proposed Leach XPress Project (LXP) can go ahead — and begin safely transporting 1.5 billion cubic feet of Appalachian natural gas to regions that need it — the development is slated to generate more than 5,652 jobs in southeast Ohio. According to US Senator Rob Portman, who has publicly praised LXP’s outreach efforts, the $1.4 billion LXP project is widely supported in the state.

"My job, as I see it, is to make sure (Columbia is) doing the right thing, and at this point I believe they are," says Portman.

Thanks to this development, we can now transport natural gas to both the west and east coasts of North America, the Gulf Coast and can even facilitate the movement of northern produced natural gas into central Mexico.

All that, and sustain thousands of working families. That’s what we like to call a win/win.
