Filling a critical educational need in Oregon
Posted by TC EnergyPartnership supports next generation of industry leaders
For decades, post-secondary students had no options if they wanted to stay in Central Oregon to complete a four-year university degree program – despite the fact that Central Oregon is one of the fastest growing regions in the state.
So when Oregon State University – Cascades (OSU-Cascades) opened a campus in Bend, OR, a decades-long community quest for higher education was fulfilled.

In 2010, OSU-Cascades launched an Energy Systems Engineering four-year degree program, which TC Energy has supported for the last five years. The program is a combination of mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering core courses, supplemented with energy-related and business management courses. As OSU-Cascades is known for their excellent engineering program, Rebecca says the job placement rate for graduates is 96 per cent.

The investment from TC Energy allows for experiential learning for senior-year students as they work on their final design projects, collaborating with local energy companies to solve a real-world problem.
“The Energy Systems Engineering program here at OSU-Cascades is really filling a critical niche, not just here in Oregon, but throughout the country,” says Andrew Ketsdever, the Associate Dean at the university.
“Energy, the use of energy, the efficient use and production of energy is becoming more and more critical for society as we know. And we’re playing a role in producing engineers who think about energy first and foremost.”
TC Energy has been moving natural gas safely and reliably in Oregon for almost 60 years. Our Gas Transmission Northwest (GTN) pipeline, built in 1961, delivers almost three billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to families and businesses in the Pacific Northwest. We are committed to investing in communities and being a good neighbour where we live and work.
