HOUSTON, March 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — TransCanada Corporation (TSX: TRP) (NYSE: TRP) (TransCanada) today announced the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved the full in-service of its Mountaineer XPress (MXP) project, allowing the company to increase the flow of gas on MXP and begin operating its Gulf XPress (GXP) project. The projects are a vital link between Appalachian natural gas supplies and growing markets in the U.S. and beyond.

After more than four years of work, the Mountaineer XPress (MXP) project has become the latest of TransCanada’s U.S. natural gas pipeline projects to be placed in-service, with authorization being granted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on March 1, 2019.

TransCanada Corporation announced its Leach XPress (LXP) project was placed in-service on January 1, 2018, and that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a certificate of public convenience and necessity for its Mountaineer XPress (MXP) and Gulf XPress (GXP) projects on December 29, 2017.

TransCanada’s Matt White, Terry Robbins and Roger Curry led the efforts of a Mountaineer XPress construction team in supporting the search and rescue of a lost child in Kenna, West Virginia.

Before construction of TC Energy’s recently completed Mountaineer XPress (MXP) natural gas infrastructure project, the project team spent countless hours identifying environmentally sensitive areas and modifying the route, in addition to developing construction techniques to minimize environmental disturbances. But once construction began, the team was presented with a unique challenge that showed no creature is too small when it comes to protecting wildlife.

As part of promoting a healthy lifestyle, TransCanada teamed up with West Virginia University’s (WVU) Extension Services Family Nutrition Program to provide children throughout the state access to locally farmed produce free of cost through West Virginia’s Kids Farmers Market Program.
