TransCanada Annual Meeting of Shareholders and First Quarter 2009 Teleconference and Webcast Advisory

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 21, 2009) - TransCanada Corporation (TransCanada) (TSX:TRP) (NYSE:TRP) TransCanada will hold its Annual Meeting of Shareholders beginning at 10:00 a.m. (Mountain) / 12:00 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, May 1, 2009. The meeting will take place at the Roundup Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

A live webcast of the meeting will be available on TransCanada's website at www.transcanada.com beginning at 10:00 a.m. (Mountain) / 12:00 p.m. (Eastern). The meeting webcast will be archived and available for replay.

TransCanada will release its first quarter 2009 financial results on the morning of Friday, May 1, 2009. Analysts, members of the media and other interested parties are invited to participate in a teleconference and webcast May 1 at 1:00 p.m. (Mountain) / 3:00 p.m. (Eastern) to discuss the first quarter 2009 financial results, and general developments and issues concerning the company.
