TransCanada Reaches Two Year Settlement With Alberta System Customers
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2008) - TransCanada Corporation (TSX:TRP) (NYSE:TRP) (TransCanada), today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) has reached a settlement with shippers and other interested parties regarding the annual revenue requirements of its Alberta System for the years 2008 and 2009.
The settlement encompasses all elements of the Alberta System costs of service. This includes operating, maintenance and administration (OM&A) costs, return on equity, income taxes, depreciation and various flow-through cost components including interest expense, property taxes and transportation by others.
TransCanada anticipates the earnings from the Alberta System will not be materially impacted by this settlement. In 2007 the net income from the Alberta System was $138 million.
TransCanada will apply to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) prior to April 1, 2008 for approval of the Alberta System settlement and determination of final tolls for 2008. TransCanada will continue to charge interim tolls until a decision from the AUC is received.
